Description

Do you enjoy being outdoors, working with plants, and sharing your love of gardening with others? The Gardening Ambassador role may be a great fit for you!

Gardening Ambassadors support staff in caring for the Maimon Memorial Garden at Cox Arboretum MetroPark while also serving as a friendly, welcoming presence for park visitors. This is a flexible volunteer opportunity for individuals who enjoy hands-on work and the ability to volunteer on their own schedule once qualified.

What to Expect at This Training

This session serves as both an introduction and a qualification step for the Gardening Ambassador role. Participants will:

  • Learn about the purpose and history of the Maimon Memorial Garden
  • Review typical volunteer tasks such as watering, weeding, and light garden maintenance
  • Tour the garden space with horticulture staff and meet current Gardening Ambassador volunteers
  • Participate in a brief hands-on planting activity

The session includes both an indoor presentation and outdoor garden time, so please dress for the weather and wear comfortable shoes you don’t mind getting a little dirt on.

After the Training

Once qualified, Gardening Ambassadors volunteer in a flexible, unscheduled capacity. This means you may support the garden anytime the park is open unless otherwise advised by staff. Volunteers typically assist with watering, weeding, and general upkeep of garden beds. They also provide feedback and ideas on garden design and plantings.

  • Have skills in garden maintenance
  • Are comfortable working independently
  • Like engaging with visitors in a friendly, helpful way
