Who We Are

Volunteer Services strives to provide high-quality, meaningful volunteer opportunities that support the agency’s mission, inspiring residents throughout the Miami Valley to become citizen advocates of Five Rivers MetroParks.
Gardening Volunteers support our horticulture and education staff in caring for a variety of gardens throughout our parks. These gardens not only provide beautiful spaces for Miami Valley residents to get outside, explore, and connect to nature, but many also provide fresh local produce to those in need in our community.

Entry-level volunteers are accepted with the goal to develop the skills listed. Some skills may require additional training and annual check-off.

Volunteers with the following skills and interests may be a good fit for this position:

  • Those with basic gardening skills and experience and an interest in learning more!
  • Volunteers interested in food security, park beautification, and/or growing their plant knowledge.
  • Those who don't mind hard work and getting their hands dirty!
  • Volunteers looking for short-term, long-term or single days of service. Youth, Groups/Teams, and more!

What We Do

  • Plant, water, prune and deadhead, mulch, and weed.
  • Collect and propagate seeds.
  • Identify and label plants and seeds.
  • Utilize various hand tools including soil knives, spades, pruners, loppers, shovels, and rakes.
