Join our experienced Lead Horticulture Technicians for the Proper Pruning: Tools & Techniques Training at Cox Arboretum MetroPark.
Pruning is more than just trimming branches—it’s an art and science that promotes healthy, beautiful plants. This training is designed to equip you with the knowledge and skills to confidently prune like a pro. Whether you’re a seasoned gardener or just starting, this session will offer valuable insights and hands-on experience.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND? This training is ideal for:
- New volunteers or gardening enthusiasts eager to learn essential pruning techniques.
- Experienced gardeners looking for a refresher and a chance to sharpen their skills (pun intended!).
DO YOU QUALIFY? To be eligible to attend this training, volunteers must be 14 years of age or older, complete the Five Rivers MetroParks volunteer onboarding process (Volunteer Profile, Volunteer Handbook Signature, Emergency Contact), and pass the online background check (ages 18 and older).
WHAT TO EXPECT
- An engaging indoor PowerPoint presentation on pruning tools, techniques, and best practices.
- Hands-on examples in the park, where you’ll put your new skills to the test under the guidance of experienced staff.
- The hands-on portion of the training will take place outdoors, so please dress for the weather and wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes, and comfortable clothing suitable for light gardening activities. We’ll provide tools and gloves for use during the session.
- Tips tailored to volunteers of all experience levels—learn the "why" and "how" behind proper pruning to help plants thrive.
