Long-term volunteers provide service to our parks at regular intervals, often for a year or longer, establishing a long-term commitment with our agency. These volunteers serve as reliable, ongoing, and valuable resources for our organization. All long-term volunteers are required to complete the volunteer onboarding process including a complete background check, complete volunteer profile, review and sign off on our volunteer handbook, view our New Volunteer Orientation, and provide updated and accurate Emergency Contact information. For more information on onboarding as a long-term volunteer visit our Training Library.
In addition to these opportunities, long-term volunteers are also welcome to sign-up for short-term volunteer opportunities and public volunteer days.
Short-Term Volunteers
Short-term volunteers provide service to our parks, typically for a set period of time, to complete a specific assignment. These individuals volunteer for a variety of reasons including earning school credit, satisfying a program requirement, or completing a service project. Short-term volunteers are required to complete the volunteer onboarding process and depending on the type of volunteer service being provided, may be subject to a background check.

Public Volunteer Days
Individuals looking to get outside and give back through a single day of service are needed year-round at Five Rivers MetroParks. These volunteers assist with a variety of opportunities at Public Volunteer Days including our annual large public volunteer days Adopt-A-Park and Make A Difference Day, as well as Service Saturdays and Special Events.
Public volunteers can provide service to the organization over a long period of time but do not have to commit to a regular, ongoing, long-term assignment.
Youth Volunteers (Ages 14-17)
Five Rivers MetroParks has a variety of volunteer opportunities open to youth ages 14-17. These volunteers may assist with our after-school program at Adventure Central, serve at our RiverScape MetroPark Ice Rink, train to become a Barn Aide at our Carriage Hill Riding Center, assist with gardening, and/or parks and conservation-related projects. These volunteers are required to complete the volunteer onboarding process, except for the background check. Looking for opportunities for youth under the age of 14? See our Family Friendly opportunities below.

Family Friendly
Five Rivers MetroParks also offers opportunities for families to volunteer together. Youth under the age of 14 may volunteer at select opportunities and must be accompanied by a parent or guardian during their volunteer assignment.
For most of our family-friendly volunteer opportunities, you can respond as a team to sign up all together. Click here to learn more about how to sign up as a team.

Group Volunteers
Families, service clubs, schools, non-profit or governmental agencies, or a corporate or religious organization are all examples of volunteer groups that help Five Rivers MetroParks achieve its mission. Opportunities for groups to make a difference in our parks are available year-round.
Note: Youth group organizations must provide their own adult chaperones to supervise the group and engage in the volunteer service. Families with youth under the age of 14, must be accompanied by an adult who engages in service and assumes supervisory responsibility.

Court-Appointed Volunteers
"I need court-mandated community service hours”
