Be a part of our event setup team and help build the Christmas on the Farm event area!  TUnder the supervision of the assigned MetroParks staff, Event Set Up volunteers help build the event by setting up various areas, including but not limited to the vendor area, historic farm display area, and tents, light displays for the evening portion. The volunteer will also assist in unloading, organizing, and securing equipment in appropriate areas.

Impact

Special Event volunteers are critical in ensuring that each special event or large-scale program runs smoothly from set-up to tear-down.  

Tasks

  • Meet with your staff leads at the site when you arrive – specific duties will be assigned, and volunteers will be divided into small teams.
  • Help staff unload, organize, and collect equipment and gear that will be distributed throughout the event site.
  • Handcarts, dollies, and hand tools will be available for volunteer use.
  • Use safe lifting techniques, proper hand tools for the job, and safety gear as appropriate and necessary. Volunteers will be provided with all needed equipment and safety gear on site.

Additional Notes

  • Eligibility: This is an opportunity for Long-Term, short- term and public volunteers who are 16 and older. Learn more about our types of service here. Only long-term volunteers may train and check off to operate power equipment and vehicles during volunteer service.
    • Youth volunteers ages 14-17 are not required to complete a background check. If you are a new youth volunteer contact volunteer.services@metroparks.org to have your background check waived.
  • Environment & Physical Demands: This program takes place indoors and outdoors. Volunteers may participate in some bending, kneeling, reaching, and lifting objects to 10 lbs or more.  With cold weather, please remember to take breaks and warm up.
  • Parking & Meeting Instructions: Click here for a map of Carriage Hill MetroPark.  Volunteers should arrive 15 minutes early to park and meet up with the staff. Staff leads will orient volunteers to the day's activities, where supplies are located,  and other important information.
  • Dress: Volunteers should dress for the weather. Period apparel is not required.  Wear your volunteer name badge and a volunteer vest will be available when you arrive.
