Program Assistant volunteers enhance the market experience by helping staff offer interactive activities for youth and families based on seasonal themes. See the schedule below for details:
- Sunday, August 7: Farmers Market Week – Melon tasting
Task: Offer samples of different varieties of melon for tasting.
- Saturday, August 13: Farmers Market Week – Two Bite Challenge
Task: Offer samples of different types of fresh veggies for tasting. Those who taste two receive a farmer’s market sticker
- Sunday, October 16: Hispanic Heritage Month - Kids Craft
Task: Assist with themed crafts for children.
- Sunday, October 23: Halloween Fun
Task: Assist with children's pumpkin decorating.
- Sunday, December 18: Breakfast with Santa
Task: Assist with serving breakfast and children’s activities.
Impact
Programs at the Market inspire further exploration of our natural and cultural world and encourage community engagement and healthy lifestyles.
Tasks may include:
- Welcome and interact with participants, typically youth and families
- Assist with check-in procedures
- Assist staff in set-up and clean-up of program materials and equipment
- Provide excellent customer service to the public when approached with questions
- Support staff or lead designated activities during the program
- Food tastings may involve cleaning, cutting, and prepping fruits or vegetables

- This opportunity is for ages 14 and older. Volunteers ages 14-17 must first be approved by a Volunteer Coordinator to Respond to this opportunity. Contact volunteer.services@metroparks.org to request approval.
