Tour Guide: Summer Strolls

Expired

Description

Volunteers will lead or support (depending on the number of hike attendees) a casual stroll through Wegerzyn Gardens MetroPark during this program, pointing out interesting sights and sounds in the garden for a family audience. Volunteers will engage with the audience, answering questions and encouraging exploration during the hike. The hike route is predetermined and volunteers will have the opportunity to pre-walk the route with staff before the program.  Familiarity with Wegerzyn Gardens is helpful. General nature knowledge and horticulture knowledge are a plus, but not required.

Impact

Volunteers help build access, comfort, convenience, and safety into our programs for all interested in learning.  They enable more individualized support for first-time learners and create a better skill-building environment. Volunteers help people make a stronger connection to nature by making it easy to experience the outdoors in fun activities.

Tasks

  • Arrive early and check-in with the staff lead for areas of interest, special instructions, and any other supplies you need for the group.
  • If there are 2 volunteers for the group, determine who does the welcome orientation, and which areas you will be highlighting
  • Welcome the visitors to the Wegerzyn and check them off on the registration sheet.
  • Before you start the tour, give an orientation of the tour, and remind people to turn off their cell phones as a courtesy.
  • At the end of the tour, thank the participants and any supplies used.

Please be prompt, the scheduled time is 30 minutes before your group arrives, so you may park, get a quick review of the highlights, and prepare for the group.  Remember to wear your nametag.
