Teachers' Night Out is a series designed for teachers to engage and learn more about incorporating nature in their classroom. This session will be at the Madison Park Elementary School, and participants will learn about creating a green school yard and engaging students in gardening activities. Volunteers should have gardening experience and be familiar with some garden design. Experience working with teachers and school children is helpful. Volunteers will support this hands-on professional development workshop specifically designed for educators. Volunteers will assist with the setup and teardown of the venue, assist our staff with the refreshment setup, and participate in the discussions.
Impact
Volunteers play an important role in helping teachers build a stronger connection with nature. By providing encouragement, individualized support, and an extra helping hand, volunteers help create a safe and inclusive environment where every 0necan explore, ask questions, and learn through discovery.
Tasks
- Assist with the setup and teardown of the program.
- Assist with the food and drink buffet.
- Welcome, greet, and direct participants to the stations.
- Learn more about the program here.
- Share their experience with gardening, garden design, and gardening with children when appropriate.
- Distribute materials as needed.
- Assist with simple but essential tasks to support the various activities.
- May assist with documenting the event through photos.
- Encourage volunteerism and help direct to the website for information.
Eligibility: This opportunity is open to individual, long-term volunteers, ages 18 and up.

Additional Notes
- Parking & Meeting Instructions: Meet the staff lead at the Madison Park Elementary School, located at 301 S. Broadway Street, Trotwood (45426). Volunteers are scheduled to arrive a half hour before the start of the program. Staff leads will orient volunteers to the day's agenda and other important information.
- Cancelation: If you need to cancel a shift last minute or are running late, please get in touch with your Staff Lead at the provided number.
- Environment & Physical Demands: This program takes place indoors and outdoors. Volunteers may participate in some bending, kneeling, reaching, and lifting objects to 10 lbs or more.
- Dress: Volunteers should dress for the weather and wear their MetroParks name badge and apparel.
