Safety and awareness are key components for visitor participation at The Wagner Subaru Outdoor Experience. Waiver Station volunteers make sure participants at this exciting event understand inherent risk and sign a waiver making it possible for them to try the many amazing outdoor activities! Volunteers will be centrally located to the Try It areas and will make sure those interested get a wristband and are ready to join in.

Impact

Special Event volunteers are critical in ensuring that each special event or large-scale program runs smoothly from set-up to tear-down. Waiver Station volunteers assist participants with completing activity waivers and provide guests with the information they need enjoy the activities at this exciting event. 

Tasks

• Greet guests and explain the purpose and need for the waiver
• Have a good understanding of the layout and direct visitors to activity areas, presentations, entertainment, demonstration times, restrooms, etc. as needed.
• Answer event related questions to the best of your ability or direct visitors to the Info Tent, an Event Ambassador or staff for additional information.
• Watch this video to learn more about our activity waivers
• Help visitors complete activity waivers and file them appropriately. This will include reading the inherent risks to the visitors and directing them to initial the inherent risk section of the waiver. Note: If a participant is under 18, a legal parent or guardian must sign for them; grandparents, aunts, uncles or anyone who is not a legal guardian cannot sign the waiver.
• Give visitors who have completed the event waiver form a wristband
• Alphabetically file the event waiver forms in the file folder box

Eligibility

Additional Notes

• Parking and Meeting Instructions: Parking is available for volunteers off Springfield Street. Volunteers should check in at Volunteer Central in the Bluegrass Shelter located directly across the footbridge by the lagoon. Please arrive 15 minutes early to park, check in, and get to your volunteer location.

• Cancellation: If you need to cancel a shift last minute or are running late, please contact the staff lead, Lauren Butts at 937-567-4405
• Environment and Physical Demands: Physical duties will include standing, walking, sitting and light lifting, talking with the public and responding to their interactions. The volunteer station is on grass alongside a paved access path. As this program takes place outdoors, please be aware of outdoor exposure risks (i.e., sun, poison ivy, insects, etc.). including seasonal allergens (i.e., grass, pollen, bees, etc.). Volunteers should bring their favorite reusable water bottle, sunscreen, and bug spray.
  • This opportunity is well suited for those with decreased mobility. Please contact us to discuss accommodation options at least 1 week in advance
• Dress: Volunteers should dress for the weather and wear comfortable shoes. Reusable volunteer vests and event nametags will be provided for you onsite at volunteer check-in.
• Special Note: At the end of your shift, please train your volunteer replacement. If there is not a replacement, please make contact with a MetroParks staff member or Volunteer Services. While there will be alcoholic drinks available at this event, volunteers should abstain until after they have completed their volunteer service. Also, even though this is a dog-friendly event, volunteers are asked to enjoy the event with their furry friends after they have completed volunteering.
