Do you love to be the one in the know and spread the word? Put your skills to great use as an Info Central and Waiver Support volunteers at Wagner Subaru Outdoor Experience! Volunteers provide event information, distribute programs, and assist participants with completing activity waivers at the central information booth at the entrance to this exciting event.

Impact

Special Event volunteers are critical in ensuring that each special event or large-scale program runs smoothly from set-up to tear-down. Info Central Support volunteers provide guests with the information they need to participate in and enjoy the activities at this exciting event. 

Tasks

• Greet guests as they enter The Wagner Subaru Outdoor Experience
• Distribute programs as needed
• Have a good understanding of the layout and direct visitors to activity areas, presentations, entertainment, demonstration times, restrooms, etc.
• Direct presenters, volunteers, and vendors to check in.
• Train your volunteer replacement and pass along any tips or tricks you learned during your shift
• Assist those interested in camping with tent registration Watch this video to learn more about camping at the event.
• Make sure visitors know there is an activity waiver to try an activity and direct them a waiver stations. Watch this video to learn more about our activity waivers
• Help visitors complete activity waivers and file them appropriately:
  • This will include reading the inherent risks to the visitors and directing them to initial the inherent risk section of the waiver. Note: If under 18, a legal parent or guardian must sign for them; grandparents, aunts, uncles, or anyone who is not a legal guardian cannot sign the waivers.

Additional Notes

• Parking and Meeting Instructions: Parking is available for volunteers off Springfield Street. Volunteers should check in at Volunteer Central in the Bluegrass Shelter located directly across the footbridge by the lagoon. Please arrive 15 minutes early to park, check in, and get to your volunteer location.

• Cancellation: If you need to cancel a shift last minute or are running late, please contact the staff lead, Lauren Butts or Chris Buck at 937-567-4405.
• Environment and Physical Demands: Physical duties will include standing, walking, sitting and light lifting, talking with the public and responding to their interactions. The volunteer station is approximately a 10 minute walk from the parking lot to access on a paved access path. As this program takes place outdoors, please be aware of outdoor exposure risks (i.e., sun, poison ivy, insects, etc.). including seasonal allergens (i.e., grass, pollen, bees, etc.). Volunteers should bring their favorite reusable water bottle, sunscreen, and bug spray.
  • This opportunity is well suited for those with decreased mobility. Please contact us to discuss accommodation options at least 1 week in advance. 
• Dress: Volunteers should dress for the weather and wear comfortable shoes. Reusable volunteer vests and event nametags will be provided for you onsite at volunteer check-in.
• Special Note: At end of your shift, please train your volunteer replacement. If there is not a replacement, please make contact with a MetroParks staff member or Volunteer Services. While there will be alcoholic drinks available at this event, volunteers should abstain until after they have completed their volunteer service. Also, even though this is a dog-friendly event, volunteers are asked to enjoy the event with their furry friends after they have completed volunteering.
