Description

Are you a volunteer interested in supporting program support at Five Rivers MetroParks? A 4-day training, 8:45 am - 5 pm each day, learning interpretive skills and techniques is being offered this fall.

In partnership with the National Association for Interpretation, Five Rivers MetroParks is providing a 32-hour Certified Interpretive Guide training program with a special option for a limited number of volunteers to attend for reduced pricing.  We can offer the reduced price of the course to our volunteers thanks to our staff being the lead instructors.  Volunteers can choose to attend the class for just the $10 cost of the NAI Certified Interpretive Guide Training Workbook, a savings of $220 compared to non-volunteer participants. If you are interested in receiving the NAI certification, there is an additional $165 cost. This course is not required to volunteer for Five Rivers MetroParks, but it is a great offering.

The course is full of interactive lessons, hands-on experiences, and opportunities for practicing interpretive techniques. The NAI Certified Interpretive Guide curriculum is an internationally recognized professional certification course, and It combines the current theoretical foundations of the profession with practical skills in delivering quality interpretive programs. Training will equip participants with skills and tools to communicate effectively with visitors. Volunteers working with presentations to the public such as Ambassadors, Wildlife Ambassador outreach volunteers, Historic Interpreter volunteers, and garden or school program guides would benefit from skill-based training.

Instructors are Joshua York and Douglas Horvath. For more information about the Certified Interpretive Guide certification and the National Association for Interpretation, visit the NAI website

Please RSVP by clicking the YES button.  Those who RSVP will be sent a link for payment for the course.  At that time, you can choose to participate with just the workbook fee, or for the certification.

Volunteers may choose to attend the 4-day sessions and only receive the NAI workbook for $10 or they may apply to receive the NAI  certification at a reduced fee as well for an additional $165. Three scholarships are available to pay for the certification for volunteers who have and are still able to assist with programming.
