Seasonal Training – Spring

 Leading a Tour

Five Rivers MetroParks offers a wealth of onsite educational programs for area school groups. These programs are adaptable to a multidisciplinary curriculum and meet Ohio Academic Content Standards Benchmarks.   To see the full lineup of educational field trips we offer: visit our community resource page on our website.

We are welcoming back current volunteers, and recruiting new volunteers, to support our efforts with the educational field trips.  This Annual spring 2022 training will focus on the Naturalist’s offerings.  There will be two dates, Wednesdays, April 6th and 13th  from 9 am-3 pm, and volunteers should try to attend both dates. April 6th will be at Cox Arboretum MetroParks starting in the Learning Lab, and  April 13th will be at Sugarcreek MetroPark.

Itinerary for the training:

April 6th - As we shift more into normalcy with spring programming, the morning session will focus on a review of policy changes, safety updates, programming, and staff changes, and revisit, review, and refresh everyone on the active school field trips this season. The afternoon will focus on skill-building starting with tree identification and includes historical and ecological stories that are sure to brighten the minds of young visitors during your walks.

April 13th: Day two will be at Sugarcreek MetroPark and will focus on the stream program through exploring new tools, catching critters, and learning more about their natural history. Volunteers will also hike through the forest identifying plants, learning new stories of ecology and history, and visiting iconic park features.

Please RSVP to both sessions, dress for the weather, bring resources you find useful for identification activities, and bring a sack lunch.

Additional Notes

See the Programming Volunteer Position Description for more detailed information.

The staff Lead, and content expert, for both training dates, is Joshua York.
