Fun Fishing For Everyone - Program Support Season Opener
Five Rivers MetroParks lakes, ponds, and rivers are rich in fish life, and fishing is re-emerging as a favorite pastime. All members of the family, young and old, can find a place to fish for recreation, relaxation, or food. Our Outdoor Recreation team creates the learning environment to help individuals build skills to be successful in these activities. AND Volunteers are an important part of the Outdoor Recreation team!! Catching a fish can be so exciting and rewarding, and a family activity many can enjoy!
Volunteers will be introduced to the 2024 lineup of fishing programs and volunteer opportunities! This session will engage volunteers in various stations and activities to build knowledge and skills and strengthen our fishing program support community. This is an opportunity for volunteers to see the various fishing program setups, how they are run, and what role volunteers can play in helping facilitate them - whether it's customer service, administrative, or fishing-related. The Fishing Trailer will be there and volunteers will learn about the gear, as well as, where all the gear is stored for the programs. Skill-building activities will include how to tie a knot, assemble a rod, rig a line, cast a line, safely take a hook out of a fish, and release it back into the water. Volunteers will be shown the check-in and registration process, the administrative items, and some of the supply preparation tasks that are essential in a successful program.
