Volunteers can help our community experience the joy of fishing with Five Rivers MetroParks! Our lakes, ponds, and rivers
are thriving with fish, making fishing not only a popular pastime but also a wonderful opportunity for families in Montgomery County to bond, relax, and perhaps catch their dinner. With the aid of our program support volunteers, our outdoor recreation team aims to create an enriching environment where individuals can develop their skills and truly enjoy these outdoor activities.

WHAT TO EXPECT & WHAT YOU'LL REVIEW
Join us as a volunteer and become part of something meaningful! Volunteers will be introduced to the new Ohio Division of Natural Resources First Cast Curriculum, learn some fly fishing basics, and explore the lineup of fishing programs and volunteer opportunities scheduled for 2026. This engaging session offers hands-on experiences across various stations, empowering you to build your fishing knowledge and skills while strengthening our vibrant fishing community. Participants will have the chance to see different setups for fishing programs, understand how they operate, and discover the various roles volunteers can play—whether in customer service, administrative tasks, or fishing-related activities.
The Fishing Trailer will be on-site, allowing volunteers to learn about the equipment and the organization of gear for the programs. Skill-building activities will include tying knots, assembling rods, rigging lines, casting, safely dehooking fish, and releasing them back into the water. Volunteers will also be guided through the check-in and registration process, as well as essential administrative tasks and supply preparations crucial for a successful program that runs smoothly.
Please note: This program will take place both indoors and outdoors. Dress in layers to stay warm and be prepared for changing weather conditions. While we aim to maximize outdoor activities, we'll move indoors if necessary to ensure everyone’s comfort. Lite morning refreshments will be provided, but please bring a brown bag lunch.
