Description

Join us in making a meaningful difference as a Program Support volunteer! Your involvement is crucial to delivering high-quality and engaging programming to the public. As a volunteer supporting the Paddlesport classes and activities, you'll assist with the essential tasks of monitoring participants in the water and keeping them safe, all while contributing to memorable experiences for our community.

Become a Safety Boater and play a key role in our Try Paddlesports programs and the Try Paddlesports area at the renowned Wagner Subaru Outdoor Experience. As a Safety Boater, you’ll be an extra set of eyes on the water, ensuring the safety and well-being of all participants. In addition to these exciting events, you'll also have the opportunity to support our flat water floats over the next year, with the requirement to retrain every 12 months to maintain your essential skills. To volunteer as a Safety Boater, prior paddling experience and completion of the Five Rivers MetroParks Safety Boater Training are necessary.

We are offering Safety Boater training on July 24 from 5 PM to 7 PM at Eastwood MetroPark's Blue Lake. Click here to access a map of the park and easily find our training location. This is your chance to join our team, whether you’re a returning Safety Boater needing your annual check-off or new to this rewarding experience.

During training, you'll gain invaluable skills, including:

-- Observing demonstrations and practicing various on-water rescue techniques
-- Becoming acquainted with the vital equipment and resources at your disposal
-- Enhancing your paddle stroke instruction knowledge

By successfully completing the training, you will be a confident Safety Boater, ready to facilitate rescues for capsized participants and provide guidance to those struggling with their paddling technique. Embrace this opportunity to make a positive impact and ensure safe, enjoyable experiences on the water for everyone!

DO YOU QUALIFY? This opportunity is reserved for long-term volunteers, ages 18 and older, who have completed their onboarding qualifications including an eligible background check and have prior paddling experience. Volunteers should be comfortable paddling flatwater and swimming.

Please note the following:

  • All volunteers who complete this training are expected to volunteer for our Try Paddlesports programs and at the upcoming Wagner Subaru Outdoor Experience as a Safety Boater.
  • This is an on-water training that will require in-water exercises. Please come to the training prepared to paddle, dressed to get wet. Bring a full water bottle, hat/sunglasses, sunscreen, and/or bug spray as needed.
  • In the event of inclement weather, this training will be rescheduled and volunteers will be notified.

RSVP is required. Please select the blue "Yes" button at the top to confirm your participation in this training.
