Garden Tour Guide Training

Join us on Monday, April 28

from 5  pm - 6:30 pm

at Cox Arboretum MetroPark.

Volunteers play an important role in achieving MetroParks’ mission to protect the region’s natural heritage and provide outdoor experiences that inspire a personal connection with nature.  Garden Tour Guides connect visitors to diverse landscapes of plants and play a crucial role in educating them about these plants. Nature is a respite for many, and Garden Tour Guides support our education team in providing this service to park visitors.

First, if you are new to Five Rivers MetroParks, WELCOME!  This training is reserved for volunteers who have completed their onboarding qualifications and have received an eligible background check. Learn more about our volunteer orientation and onboarding: Click on this link to complete our Volunteer Onboarding.  Volunteer onboarding also includes submitting and passing a background check. Volunteers need to be a minimum of 18 years of age.

Training to be a Garden Guide requires volunteers to complete the 2-part online training series, as well as an in person training. Garden Guides learn about the gardens, plants, some history of the site and the unique features of the park.  The online training is designed to prepare you for the in-person training & check-off and your role as a Garden Tour Guide.  For most of the garden tours, guides utilize our extended golf carts or TRAMs, and this will be a 2nd in-person check off.

Part 1: Garden Tour Guide online training

Part 2: Electric Cart (TRAM) Driver online training

PLEASE NOTE: Anyone attending the in-person training must first complete the online training series. Once you have completed both parts of the online training, RSVP for the in-person training by clicking on the blue YES button above.  There is also an In-Person Electric Cart (TRAM) training and check-off that will need to be completed, and you can choose which date is best for you.  Please choose either April 22 orApril 23

You do not need to be a horticulturist to be a great garden guide!  Excitement about the park, the plants, and sharing your enthusiasm are the qualities we are looking for in a volunteer in this position.

RSVP is required.

*Dress for the weather, wear comfortable, closed-toe shoes, and bring a pre-filled water bottle.

Volunteers don't just make a difference; they ARE the difference.  Thank you for your support.

We look forward to seeing you on April 28!
