Historic Interpreter Spring Training

Do you enjoy working with people? Do you have an interest in history? Historic Interpreter volunteers are part of the program support team and bring the history of the Daniel Arnold Historic Farm to life by interpreting 19th-century farm life and demonstrating simple everyday farm tasks. These volunteers represent what living in the 1880s might have been like, and help visitors make a stronger connection to the history of Carriage Hill and the experience of life on an 1880s working farm. Program Support volunteers, including Historic Interpreter volunteers, are critical in ensuring we can provide high-quality, engaging programming to the public.

New and Returning volunteers are invited to attend!  This hands-on training is designed to create a more enriching experience for newer volunteers, as well as, leadership volunteers for Carriage Hill Historic Farm. It will aid volunteers in being well-rounded in all things Carriage Hill and enhancing the visitor experience by aiding staff in creating a more dynamic offering of living history when the site is open during programs. Training will focus on:

  • the basics of interpretation and customer service
  • the actual history of the farm and the Arnold Family who lived there
  • a tour and interpretive points of the farm
  • learning how to start and maintain the fire in the stove
  • introduction to the behind-the-scenes essentials to be successful during your shift

There will be an opportunity for volunteers to get some practice with lighting the stove, starting the fire in the blacksmith shop, and other essentials needed to complete the checkoff process.

Are you Qualified? This opportunity is reserved for volunteers who have completed their onboarding qualifications and have received an eligible background check. Learn more about our volunteer orientation and onboarding here. Must be age 18 or older. To review and complete the virtual training, please click here.

If you are interested in supporting one of the skilled trade areas (blacksmith, woodworker), this session is structured to give you the interpretive qualifications needed.

RSVP is required. Please select the blue "Yes" button at the top to confirm your participation in this training.
