Master Recycler Trip to Columbus Materials Recovery Facility
Join your fellow Master Recycler volunteers and MetroParks staff on a field trip to the Columbus Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) to learn more about recycling.
Please Note: Due to limited seats in our vehicles, this invitation is restricted to volunteers currently serving as Master Recycler volunteers. Not sure if you qualify? Just email and we can let you know.
Itinerary:
Volunteers will have two options for joining the facility tour:
- Volunteers will meet with MetroParks staff at the Montgomery County Solid Waste District Building at 2500 Sandridge Dr., Moraine at 11:15 am. Volunteers will then be driven by MetroParks staff to Columbus in a MetroParks vehicle. Volunteers will receive a tour of the Columbus MRF by site staff, which is expected to take about two hours. Participants will then be driven back to Dayton and dropped off at 2500 Sandridge Dr. around 5 pm. Seats are limited. If you would like to ride to Columbus in the MetroParks vehicle, email Kelly Bohrer at kelly.bohrer@metroparks.org to secure your seat.
- Volunteers can drive themselves and meet the group at 1 pm at the Columbus MRF, located at 1190 Joyce Ave., Columbus, OH 43219. Participants will receive a tour of the Columbus MRF by site staff. The tour is expected to take about two hours.
What to bring:
If riding with MetroParks, pack a lunch or snack and water or other beverage, if desired.
What to Wear:
Please dress casually and comfortably. Dress for the weather and wear comfortable shoes.
Please note that temperatures may vary in the plant depending on the time of year.
For your safety, please wear sturdy closed-toe shoes with backs (no sandals, flip-flops, or heels).
Environmental Concerns:
The tour involves some walking and the use of stairs.
The recycling facility can be prone to dust and loud noise.
The recycling facility also contains several large magnets and electromagnets.
Before you arrive, please let us know if you or any member of your group will need special accommodations.
You will be provided with safety gear as needed before heading into the plant
