Five Rivers MetroParks provides a wide variety of high-quality programs to help the public get outside and get connected to nature. Programming volunteers work alongside staff to provide support at programs year-round that help participants master new skills, learn about the natural world, and appreciate the value of open spaces. Our Outdoor Recreation team creates the learning environment to help individuals build skills to be successful in these activities. AND Volunteers are an important part of the Outdoor Recreation team!!
With a new Backcountry coordinator, we are kicking off Program Support for hiking, camping, and backpacking with an introduction for volunteers to participate in the exciting programs being planned. We are offering two sessions to begin the training and support needed for the upcoming Backcountry (hiking, backpacking, camping) programs.
THIS IS SESSION 2
Session Two: Volunteers ready to engage and offer support for these programs should attend this session being held at the Twin Valley
Welcome Center. Many of the programs, as well as the equipment, is located at the Twin Valley Welcome Center. Many of the programs and program support needs are based at this location. This session will engage volunteers in various stations and activities to build knowledge and skills and strengthen our program support community. Volunteers will be able to get a more hands-on experience of what is needed during each program, a chance to build or refresh some skills (setting up a campsite, setting up a tent, cooking options and some recipes participants will receive), learn more about the different equipment used, explore where supplies/equipment are kept, and all the details to help a volunteer be confident and efficient in the role of program support and assisting with the various opportunities.
Additional Notes
This program will be both indoors and outdoors. Please dress in layers for warmth and prepare for whatever the weather may bring. We will try to do everything we can outside that would normally be done, but we will be inside for a good portion of the training.
