Description

The National Conference for Community and Justice (NCCJ) will be holding its Diversity 101 Series (4 parts) for FRMP employees and volunteers on October 11, October 25, November 1st and November 8th from 9 am to 11 am in the Five Rivers MetroPark Main Office - Classroom. This series will help build the participant’s understanding of diversity in these areas of focus:

  • Implicit Bias will enhance our ability to become inclusive individuals and act in just, equitable ways, we must first look within ourselves. Implicit Bias is a natural, biological response initiated out of a historical context of survival. Implicit Bias discusses how our previous experiences impact the ways in which we interact with the world and others. By understanding implicit biases, we are better able to address these biases.
  • Inclusive leadership will discuss ways to take proactive measures to ensure your practices and spaces are equitable. We identify the qualities that inclusive leaders have and the ways that being an inclusive leader can support the community. Through the training, we discuss inclusive leadership tools on the organizational and individual levels.
  • Understanding Privilege will help participants identify how privilege may unknowingly play a role in their life experiences. In the course, we understand how privilege shows up in subtle ways as well as more explicit senses in our lives. Participants work to understand the ways in which they have privilege, and how privilege may impact those they work with. Lastly, we understand how we can use privilege as a tool for promoting equity.
  • Social Change provides individuals with ways they can be an ally. Social Change identifies our Social Change Roles, and 9 unique ways that an individual can work together to create change. The session helps individuals to understand the importance of bringing unique voices to the table when making change and to recognize the diverse strengths each of us has to offer.

Fully onboarded, Long-Term volunteers, especially those that support Programming and Ambassador opportunities are encouraged to attend!
