Historic Woodworker - Volunteer Training

Thank you for your interest in supporting the historic farm as a Historic Woodworker. The Daniel Arnold Historic Farm is located within Carriage Hill MetroPark and offers a captivating glimpse into the past, attracting visitors every year. It provides more than just an overview of history; it presents an immersive interpretive experience. Guided by the story of the Arnold family, visitors can learn what life was truly like for a farming family in the 19th century.
Within the woodshop at the historic farm, the interpretation of the tools and methods used in the woodshop is more significant than the actual production of wooden items. Through proper interpretation, visitors will gain an understanding of the pride in craftsmanship and the satisfaction that woodworkers in the 1880s felt when creating useful items. These volunteers typically come to us with previous experience in carpentry or woodworking that they build on through our Historic Woodworker volunteer training to help bring the historic farm to life for our many visitors throughout the year at Carriage Hill MetroPark. Historic Woodworker volunteers will be required to complete an annual check off of safe demonstration of woodworking skills.
ARE YOU ELIGIBLE? This opportunity is open to individual long-term volunteers ages 18 and up, who have completed their volunteer onboarding qualifications (Volunteer Handbook Signature, Completed Volunteer Profile) and an eligible background check. Historic Woodworkers also need to be qualified as Historic Interpreters. New to MetroParks volunteering? Click here to learn more about how to become a volunteer!
