Program Support: Dayton Backpacker Campfire

Description

Are you enthusiastic about the outdoors and recreation? The Outdoor Recreation team is looking for recreation-minded volunteers to help support our staff and partners at Dayton Backpacker Campfire! Volunteers will help support the event and create a welcoming experience for participants. These presentations bring outdoor enthusiasts together to learn, connect, and be inspired.

Impact
Volunteers play a crucial role in enhancing access, comfort, convenience, and safety in our programs for anyone interested in learning. They provide personalized support for first-time learners and foster a more effective skill-building environment.

Tasks

  • Get oriented to the layout of the event and where to find things needed.
  • Assist Staff with setup, teardown, and ensuring the space is ready for our guests.
  • Greet guests and welcome them to the program.
  • Distribute program materials.
  • Assist in wayfinding, answering questions regarding MetroParks, and acting as an ambassador for the event.
  • Thank guests for coming, and encourage them to attend additional sessions.
  • Assist staff with troubleshooting any challenges and making sure the event is going smoothly as needed.
  • Enjoy the program!

Eligibility

This opportunity is open to individual long-term, and short-term volunteers, ages 18 and up.

Additional Note

  • Parking & Meeting Instructions: Click here for a map of Cox Arboretum MetroPark.  Volunteers are scheduled to arrive 30 minutes before the beginning of the opportunity. Staff leads will orient volunteers to the tasks agenda, and other important information.
  • Environment & Physical Demands: This program takes place primarily indoors. Volunteers may participate in some bending, kneeling, reaching, and lifting objects of 15lbs or more. Setup and teardown may include moving up to 100 wooden chairs and rolling away tables.
  • Dress: Volunteers should dress for the weather, and wear their MetroParks name badge and apparel
