Looking for an opportunity to get your hands dirty, take action in combatting invasive species, and make a difference? Join the knowledgeable staff and other volunteers as we cut and remove invasive species from Taylorsville MetroPark!
Impact
To preserve the diversity of habitats, parklands are carefully managed to preserve and protect native plant and animal communities of the Miami Valley. Non-native invasive species, such as honeysuckle, compete with or eliminate native plant species and are controlled with mowing, and, in some cases, controlled treatment with herbicides. Volunteer support helps to expand our efforts in protecting our region's natural heritage.
Tasks
Under the supervision of the assigned Conservation Technician, support and assist with the following:
-
clearing and chipping invasive plants, mostly Amur Honeysuckle, adjacent to the parking lot of the Taylorsville MetroPark maintenance facility. Volunteers will be using loppers and/or hand saws to cut honeysuckle. The space created from the removal these invasive plant species will be used to plant native trees and shrubs.
