Five Rivers MetroParks and Wright State University are seeking enthusiastic volunteers to help at The Adventure Summit. Opportunities are available for just about everyone. The only requirement is that you are willing to have a great time while being immersed in outdoor culture. This is a people-oriented opportunity!  Volunteers are stationed at the entrance, welcoming attendees, and providing information and event assistance.

Impact

Info Central volunteers are the first folks that visitors to the event will have contact with. They create positive, high-energy, enthusiasm at the start of the visitor experience, answering questions and helping with wayfinding. Volunteers will leave knowing they have promoted an active, healthy lifestyle in the region and have contributed to making Dayton “The Adventure Capital of the Midwest!”

Tasks

  • Greet event visitors as they come through the main entrance into The Adventure Summit and thank them as they leave.
  • Use the hand counters to record how many people enter the doorway for the event.
  • Distribute programs as needed.
  • Direct them to various experience areas at the Adventure Summit.
  • Have a good understanding of the layout of The Adventure Summit. Answer questions and direct event participants to presentation rooms and various locations.
  • Direct presenters, volunteers, and vendors to check-in.
  • Make sure anyone who wants to try an activity, signs an event waiver form following he process below:
    1. Complete an event risk waiver: If under 18, a legal parent or guardian must sign for them; grandparents, aunts, uncles, or anyone who is not a legal guardian cannot sign the waivers.
    2. Read the inherent risks to the visitors and have them initial the inherent risk section of the waiver.
    3. Give visitors who have completed the event waiver form a wristband.
    4. Alphabetically file the event waiver forms in the file folder box.

Eligibility

  • This opportunity is open to long-term volunteers.  Learn more about our types of service here. Volunteers with knowledge of Five Rivers MetroParks and/or Wright State University are preferred, but all long-term volunteers are welcome. 
  • We do not require a background check for our public volunteer opportunities; however, persons with a criminal record may be disqualified and prohibited from service. Additional Notes

  • Environment and Physical Demands: This volunteer opportunity may include standing for extended periods. 
  • Parking and Meeting Instructions: Parking is available in the Visitor and Student Union lots at Wright State University at 3640 Colonel Glenn Hwy, Fairborn, OH 45324. 
  • Please arrive 15 minutes early to park and get checked in. 
  • Dress: Please dress for the weather (volunteers are stationed near the doorway) and wear comfortable shoes. A volunteer nametag and volunteer safety vest are required and will be supplied at the event.
