Volunteers enhance the visitor experience by assisting staff in the Rental Office. 

TasksGreet guests at the rentals service window. Hand out and process returned skates.Help with setup and teardown as needed (signs, skate return area, etc.)Help create a warm, friendly, and fun atmosphere at the RiverScape Ice Rink for all our guests.Eligibility  This opportunity is open to the following volunteers: Long-Term and Short-Term, and Youth. Learn more about our types of service here.Additional Notes Training: Volunteers will receive in-person training at the beginning of their first shift.Parking & Meeting Instructions: Volunteers may park at the Five Rivers MetroParks Main Office parking lot, located at 409 E. Monument Ave, Dayton 45402, with an appropriate volunteer parking pass. Additional street parking is available around RiverScape, and parking meters are free on the weekends. Please plan to arrive 10 minutes before your shift to allow for parking, checking in, and connecting with the staff lead. Environment & Physical Demands: ​​Light physical duties include standing, walking, and light lifting. Join us as we spark the interest and curiosity of guests of all ages at this year's Adventure Summit!  Tactile Nature Interpreters are needed to shadow our staff at this opportunity introducing guests to our variety of touchable items including furs and bones and helping them connect with our mission.

In this shadow experience, staff will work with you to show you how to confidently interpret the furs and engage the public.

Five Rivers MetroParks Tactile Nature Interpreters assist our education and marketing teams in sharing our conservation message with community members of all ages at a variety of programs, events, and outreach opportunities year-round.

Volunteers like YOU can share our conservation mission and the importance of healthy habitat for animals like them and people like us to a variety of audiences throughout our community.

Tasks

Meet the staff at the location 15 minutes prior to the program and help set up the interpretation table with the touchables. At end of the program assist with clean-up. With the help of your staff lead you will: Welcome guests, introduce yourself, and invite them up to explore the variety of touchables.Share program talking points and answer common questions with information from the Tactile Nature Interpreter Manual providing excellent customer service to the public.Follow all safety procedures and ensure the safety of all participants.

Eligibility: This is an opportunity for individual Long-Term volunteers who are 16 and older who are in training to be qualified Tactile Nature Interpreters.

Environment & Physical Demands: This program takes place indoors. Volunteers can expect bending, kneeling, reaching, and lifting objects 10 lbs. or more, and standing for long periods. Must be willing to engage visitors of all ages in conversations about nature. Parking & Meeting Instructions: Parking is available in the Visitor and Student Union lots at Wright State University at 3640 Colonel Glenn Hwy, Fairborn, OH 45324. Please arrive 15 minutes early to park and get checked in.  Dress: Please dress for the weather and wear comfortable shoes. Wear your blue or green volunteer t-shirt, if you have one. A reusable volunteer vest and name badge will be provided at check-in. Visitor Center Ambassadors share their enthusiasm for Five Rivers MetroParks with diverse audiences at the Visitor Centers at Carriage Hill and Cox Arboretum MetroParks. Ambassadors are often the first friendly faces a visitor sees welcoming them to the park and can be counted on to share helpful information and answer a variety of questions.

TasksProvide excellent customer service by welcoming and directing visitors throughout the park and visitor center.Answer questions about MetroParks. Distribute brochures or other literature appropriate to the conversation.Provide guest assistance while Visitor Services staff is on break. (You will not be asked to answer phones.)Eligibility This opportunity is open to the following volunteers: Long-Term, Short-Term, and Youth ages 16 and up. Learn more about our types of service here. Additional Notes Parking & Meeting Instructions: Parking can be found in the visitor parking lots in front of the visitor center located at 6733 N. Springboro Pike. Cancelation:  If you need to cancel a shift last minute or are running late, please call Visitor Services Manager Jonathan Gray at 937-499-4270 or 937-275-7275 Environment & Physical Demands: ​​This opportunity involves sitting at the volunteer desk for periods for periods of time. Volunteers may want to stand for periods to speak with guests or show them to specific areas or give directions. Volunteers may choose to station themselves outside the visitor center for some or all of their shifts. Dress: Please wear your volunteer name badge and, if you have one, your green or blue volunteer shirt. The temperature in the atrium stays cool or warm in alignment with the weather, so please dress accordingly.
