Volunteer: The Adventure Summit: Poster Distribution

Help us get the word out about The Adventure Summit! Volunteers are needed to deliver event posters to area businesses and community spaces to help promote this incredible event. This is a flexible, unscheduled opportunity - you can volunteer when it is convenient for you!*

Impact

Volunteers will have helped promote an active, healthy lifestyle in the region and have contributed to making Dayton “The Adventure Capital of the Midwest!”

Tasks

The staff lead will contact volunteers to determine the best zones for delivery. Volunteers will be given a list of places to visit within a defined geographical area of Dayton to distribute posters. Volunteers may find additional places to visit that are not on the list. Look for places connected to recreation, close to bikeways, or places where people hang out: restaurants, coffee shops, gear shops, etc. Volunteers need to be able to pick up all supplies and instructions at the Main Office, 409 E Monument Ave, Third Floor, Monday-Friday from 8 a.m-5 p.m.Volunteers must be able to make deliveries before February 14th*. Distribution can occur on the volunteer's schedule--no set days or times, as long as deliveries are made before February 14th*. NOTE: Volunteers unable to complete deliveries must contact the staff lead right away so that alternative delivery arrangements can be made. When making deliveries, volunteers should: wear their MetroParks volunteer apparel and name badgeintroduce themselves as a volunteer with Five Rivers MetroParks ask for permission to hang posters using the provided tape or pushpinsnote which places they visited, and which were willing to display a poster and/or distribute palm cards to report back to staff.

Tasks

Report to your classroom assignment (you'll receive your room assignment at volunteer check-in) and help prepare the room for the scheduled presentation. You can view the schedule of presentations here.  Welcome the public to the presentation and help find seats if needed.When the presentation begins, close the doors to ensure all can hear.  Count how many people are attending the presentation and record the total attendance in the binder for each presentation. Open the doors at the end of the presentation. Thank everyone for coming and ask them to complete an evaluation card on their way out. Enjoy the event!

Join us as we spark the interest and curiosity of guests of all ages at this year's Adventure Summit!  Tactile Nature Interpreters are needed to shadow our staff at this opportunity introducing guests to our variety of touchable items including furs and bones and helping them connect with our mission.

In this shadow experience, staff will work with you to show you how to confidently interpret the furs and engage the public.

Five Rivers MetroParks Tactile Nature Interpreters assist our education and marketing teams in sharing our conservation message with community members of all ages at a variety of programs, events, and outreach opportunities year-round.

Tasks

Assist staff in set-up and clean-up of wildlife ambassador booth space.With the help of your staff lead you will:Welcome guests to the booth, introduce yourself and the wildlife ambassadorsProvide excellent customer service to the public when approached with questions. Review talking points regarding the wildlife ambassadors in the Wildlife Ambassador Manual.Follow all safety procedures and ensure the safety of all participants. Alert staff when and if any issues arise.

Eligibility: This is an opportunity for individual Long-Term volunteers who are qualified Wildlife Ambassador Animal Care volunteers.

Additional Notes

Environment & Physical Demands: This program takes place indoors. Volunteers can expect bending, kneeling, reaching, and lifting objects 10 lbs. or more, and standing for long periods. Must be willing to engage visitors of all ages in conversations about nature. Parking & Meeting Instructions: Parking is available in the Visitor and Student Union lots at Wright State University at 3640 Colonel Glenn Hwy, Fairborn, OH 45324. Please arrive 15 minutes early to park and get checked in.  Dress: Please dress for the weather and wear comfortable shoes. Wear your blue or green volunteer t-shirt, if you have one. A reusable volunteer vest and name badge will be provided at check-in.
