Do you have some textile skills you are willing to share? Want to learn how to use a loom and weave a simple project? MetroParks is helping bring back fiber arts and textile skills in various programs and at the Historic Farm at Carriage Hill. Volunteers help build access, comfort, convenience, and safety into our programs for all interested in learning. They enable more individualized support for first-time learners and create a better skill-building environment. Volunteers on textile workdays may weave items needed for the historic farm.
This is a training opportunity for individuals who will be volunteering with our staff at programs, behind-the-scenes opportunities, and demonstrations at the farmhouse. It is a 3-day training, and participants need to attend all 3 sessions. Dates are:
- Saturday, January 13 - 10 am - 2 pm
- Saturday, January 20 - 10 am - 2 pm
- Saturday, January 27 - 10 am - 2 pm
Volunteers will learn weaving basics from planning to warping and weaving a project. They will also learn tasks and simple demonstration techniques to support with weaving classes, trainings, and demonstrations.
Training opportunities allow volunteers to get to know the staff and other volunteers helping with program support, gain skills, and confidence, and discover essentials in the program space – storage, where supplies can be found, water outlets, trash, etc.
Basic skills are helpful for some tasks, and other skills will be strengthened. Please remember to bring lunch and a refillable water bottle.
DO YOU QUALIFY?
