Description

Deer Team Leaders Meeting – Post-Season

March 1, 2023 – Cox Arboretum

Tentative Agenda Items:

Changes to Team Leader hour requirement

  • Averaged how many hours each of you recorded for the past season, On average the team leaders have 20 volunteer hours right now. 6 team leader volunteers are either close to 30 hours or have met it
  • We reconsidered hour expectations and reduced, now there is a 30 hour requirement for Team Leaders, with expectation to attend team leader meetings if available

Upcoming volunteer days (many more listed on Get Connected)

  • Wed. March 15th 1-3PM Taylorsville Invasive Species Removal
  • Wed. March 29th 9-11AM Taylorsville Invasive Species Removal

Re-cap of harvest results

  • 142 deer harvested, 18 non-recoveries, 89% recovery rate
  • Considering the last 2 years were record harvest, 142 is comparable to average (2019-2020 141 deer harvested)
  • Hours/hunter and deer surveys are taken into account as well when determining harvest quotas

iSportsman

  • Thank you for offering to test it out
  • Software is not developed enough to fit our needs
  • Will continue to explore other options to make the program more stream lined.

  • Plan to have an interactive map link – orange flagging still needed to mark boundaries
  • Record tree stand/blind locations – TBD, I would like this info for safety reasons but I still need to figure out a good way to collect it
  • Website – will be updated in 1-2 months
  • Registration: June 22 – July 14, 2023
    • Preference for volunteers and 7 from waitlist
    • No preference for youth in registration (preference given in lottery for locations)
