Carriage Hill Field Trip Host is a NEW opportunity and is a perfect fit for those who enjoy engaging children, love history, and are excited to share all the unique experiences that can be found at Carriage Hill. As a Host, you will welcome the school groups, share tidbits about Carriage Hill as you stroll alone the path to the Historic Farm. This role introduces the group to the Historic Interpreters at each station, and helps engage them in the experiences and supports the Historic Farm team as children discover what life was like on a 1880's farm.

This opportunity is open to individual long-term volunteers, ages 18 and up, who have completed their volunteer onboarding qualifications (Volunteer Handbook Signature, Completed Volunteer Profile), and for those 18 and up, an eligible background check. WHAT TO EXPECT & WHAT YOU'LL REVIEW

This orientation will help volunteers learn what a typical field trip looks like at Carriage Hill, review responsibilities, expectations, basics of customer service, and foundational informationaboutthe history of Carriage Hill MetroParks and the Historic Farm.

Review (Before attending session):

Virtual Tour of the Historic Farm: Get an overview of the Historic Farm, and prepare any questions for the in-person tour during the orientation.
Fieldtrip Host Script: An example of how the tour starts, some information about each of the stops, and some historic points of interest about Carriage Hill and the history of the farm.
Historic Farm Map: Buildings and locations of places of interest on the farm.

In-Person Orientation (approximately 11 1/2 hour):

Classroom: Introduction to Carriage Hill Visitor Center and some history, review resources available, Customer Service Best Practices, roles and responsibilities of the host, time commitment involved, and general questions.
Historic Farm Field trip tour Example: Experience the tour first hand, so volunteers should be dressed for the weather and wear appropriate hiking shoes.

This training includes both classroom and field components:

Physical Requirements: Volunteers should be prepared to hike the distance, be comfortable on some uneven ground paths, and be able to be outside for most of the field trips.
Volunteers in this opportunity should enjoy engaging with children! As a Host, you’ll be the welcoming face for school groups, guiding them along the beautiful path to the Historic Farm while sprinkling in fascinating tidbits about Carriage Hill’s rich heritage. Picture yourself introducing these young explorers to our enthusiastic Historic Interpreters at each station, igniting their curiosity and helping them fully immerse themselves in hands-on experiences.
