Description

Do you love being around horses and don’t mind getting your hands a bit dirty? Or are you looking for a great way to give back while getting in a good physical workout? The Barn Aide volunteer opportunity may be perfect for you! Barn Aide Volunteers provide essential support to the horses and ponies at the Carriage Hill Riding Center cleaning stalls, turning horses out to pasture, and providing them with fresh food and water.

All Riding Center Volunteers begin as a Barn Aide, and once qualified, can complete additional training to assist with Lessons, Camps, Pony Rides, and Trail Rides.

For training, volunteers are asked to complete a virtual training at home and then attend an in-person Barn Aide Training onsite at the Carriage Hill Riding Center followed by Shadow Experiences.  Barn Aides are expected to serve at least 8 shifts per year.

DO YOU QUALIFY? To be eligible to support this opportunity, volunteers must be 14 years of age or older, and must complete the volunteer onboarding qualifications, including receiving an eligible background check (if 18 and up). Click here to complete your volunteer onboarding qualifications.

GET STARTED!

Begin with our virtual training to learn more here. Then, RSVP to join us for this in-person training and practice session.

Important:

  • Those who RSVP but do not complete the onboarding qualifications or the virtual training, will be removed from the training list.
  • Save time at the training by printing and signing these forms to bring with you to the training. Youth volunteers, ages 14-17, will need to have a parent/guardian sign these ahead of time or bring a parent/guardian with you to the training to have them signed.
  • This training will take place in our barn. Please dress for the weather and wear closed-toe boots.
  • Volunteer training does not count towards volunteer hours. Volunteer impact hours are tracked to reflect the direct contribution volunteers make toward our mission.

If you have questions, or need assistance getting started, please contact Volunteer Services at volunteer.services@metroparks.org, or by phone at #937-275-7275.
