Possum Creek Garden Maintenance

The Possum Creek Garden Maintenance was my first volunteering opportunity of the summer, and I really enjoyed my experience here! We mainly got rid of the weeds around the garden, which I had a lot of fun doing. I found it satisfying to pull out weeds, especially the ones with really long roots, and being surrounded by the sounds of nature while we worked was therapeutic. Once you got into a rhythm, it was easy to become immersed in your work, allowing the time to fly by. I also enjoyed talking to the other volunteers there; it was a very welcoming environment. There were also animals all over the place that added to the sounds of nature (mainly the chickens). I even petted a goat for the first time, which was a lot less scary than I thought it was going to be, but I did have to build up my courage first. I didn't get to explore too much due to the inclement weather, but from what I did see, it was a cool space that I would love to visit again in the future, and it gets me excited to visit the other parks later this summer.

You can volunteer in the garden at Possum Creek too! Learn more and sign up to lend a hand here. Or explore other gardening opportunities with MetroParks here

Next up, I will be trying out a program support opportunity for a Garden Time for Kids program at Wegerzyn Gardens MetroPark. Follow me on my next volunteering adventure right here in the volunteer blog.
