 Volunteer Updates

What's NEW in volunteerism this month!

NEW! Volunteer Appreciation - Its National Volunteer Month! To recognize and appreciate your service we are expanding our VIP, Volunteer Incentive Program, to include volunteer discounts! Volunteers with 25 hours or more can now qualify for volunteer discounts towards great MetroParks programs and routine rentals. Read more about these new discounts in this month's Volunteer Appreciation section.

NEW! April 8, 2024 Solar Eclipse Preparations: Everything You Need to Know

-Most area residents do not need to travel to view the total eclipse. Enjoy from wherever you are!

-The Air Force Museum will host an all-day viewing event with plentiful parking, activities and food trucks.

-Three parks to view the Eclipse: Eastwood MetroParkPossum Creek MetroPark and Carriage Hill MetroPark.

-Arrive early. Parking is limited and first-come, first-served. Parking in grass is not permitted.

-Many volunteer shifts will be cancelled for this day to help ease park and city-wise anticipated congestion. Check with your Staff Lead and/or your Volunteer Services team regarding delays or shift cancellations.

Read more about this year's solar eclipse including general safety tips and answers to frequently asked questions here on the MetroParks blog

REMINDER: Get Connected Site Updates - Beginning in Aprilall volunteer hours submitted will need to be connected to a volunteer opportunityWhen you check in to service, this automatically happens, but for those adding hours, they will need to select the opportunity they have responded to in order to apply the hours to that opportunity and submit. This is an easy drop down on the "Add Hours" and "Track Hours" pages. This will help us better track volunteer service across the agency.

Coming Soon! New Volunteer Orientation and Handbook We have revised our new volunteer orientation and volunteer handbook and will be asking all of our short-term and long-term volunteers to review these items and sign off on the new volunteer handbook.
