Who We Are


Volunteer Services strives to provide high-quality, meaningful volunteer opportunities that support the agency’s mission, inspiring residents throughout the Miami Valley to become citizen advocates of Five Rivers MetroParks.
Five Rivers MetroParks provides a wide variety of high-quality programs to help the public get outside and get connected to nature. Programming volunteers work alongside staff to provide support at programs year-round that help participants master new skills, learn about the natural world, and appreciate the value of open spaces.

Entry-level Volunteers are accepted with the goal to develop the skills listed. Some skills may require additional training and annual check-off. 

Volunteers with the following skills and interests may be a good fit for this position:

  • Volunteers with skills and experience in blacksmithing, camping, culinary arts, customer service, cycling, data collection, equestrian, fishing, gardening, hiking, paddling, plant knowledge, public speaking and presentation, sewing /textiles, teaching, wildlife knowledge, and woodworking.
  • Volunteers interested in artisan crafts and cooking, community outreach, education, farm life, gardening and horticulture, habitat management, history, horses, outdoor recreation, reforestation, sustainability, trails, wildlife, and youth & families.
  • Volunteers looking for short-term or long-term volunteer service. 

What We Do


  • Welcome participants and assist with check-in procedures.
  • Assist staff in set-up and clean-up of program materials and equipment.
  • Ensure each participant is set up or fitted with all necessary supplies, equipment, or gear.
  • Provide excellent customer service to the public when approached with questions.
  • Support staff or lead designated activities during the program.
  • Follow all safety procedures and ensures the safety of all participants.
